This is a simple and entertaining route all within Balboa Park. Starting at the beautiful plaza de Panama, you’ll head west across the Cabrillo Bridge and then duck off to find the first dirt section. After a quick descent, you parallel highway 163 north until a bridge brings you east across the highway.
You’ll climb on a dirt path and then mount stairs to a short pavement section. After soem pavement, you’ll re-enter at a different park entrance into the dirt. You’ll circle the velodrome on dirt, then descend into some more technical rocky terrain.
After the technical section, you’ll climb and then jumps are available for you to practice your hops. Additionally, you’ll ride on singletrack parallel to a roadway, which has some additional ramps for air.
At the end you’ll turn north again, you’ll cross a major road and then ride along an old stream which mixes singletrack and lusher foliage. After zigs and zags, you’ll turn around and begin your climb. It is steep! But you can make it.
You’ll reach a desert garden where you should be especially respectful to pedestrians, and then a bridge will take you back toward where you started at the plaza de Panama. Feel free to treat yourself to a beverage and/or snack!
